The main thing you must do
when you visit Iona is to experience the peace and tranquillity of this
unique island.
This cannot be done in a 2
hour dash from the ferry to the abbey and then back to Mull in time for
dinner - so to really experience Iona plan to stay for at least two
nights on the island.
There is something special
about Iona. Something spiritual - though this need not be in a religious
way. Maybe it is the size of the island or its location off the West
coast of Scotland. Maybe it is the lack of crowds. Maybe it is a
tranquillity passed down over the years from the nuns and monks who have
resided on the island. It is difficult to know what makes Iona so
special but most people who visit will go away feeling uplifted and at
peace with the world.
