The ringing rock at Port na
Fraing is a wonderful phenomenon and well worth the walk to find it.
From the White Sands of the
monk (Traigh Bhan) head south along the shoreline towards Port na Fraing
- you will reach a large erratic of pink granite balanced on rocks near
the shore - keep going (you will probably have to 'climb' over a wire
fence). Not far away is a smaller rock - it has a little hollow in the
top which usually contains a pebble. Hit the rock with the pebble to
make it ring. Hitting it on different spots can produce several
different notes. Place the pebble back in the hollow when you leave.
